S6 CSLA pupils deliver PE to over 70 Annanhill primary 1 pupils every week.

S1 & 2

Core PE

In S1 & 2 pupils experience a range of activities in PE including Basketball, Table Tennis, Dance, Rugby, Volleyball, Badminton and Football. In addition to this all pupils receive a block of social dance before the Christmas holiday and a block of Athletics in May. The focus within Core PE is to encourage maximum participation with an onus on developing fitness and game skills in preparation for certificated PE in the senior phase.

Health

In S1& 2 every pupil gets 1 Health period a week. Unlike in Core PE, pupils learn about how to keep their bodies and minds healthy through a range of activities outside of the traditional PE games such as Karate and Orienteering. In addition to this, in an attempt to improve physical fitness, pupils undertake various forms of fitness testing before working through methods of training and alternative fitness sessions like boxercise and metafit.

S3

PE Studies

Pupils who opt for PE Studies in S3 are given the opportunity to experience the Cycle of Analysis through a range of activities. There is still an emphasis on breadth and depth to the course and pupils evidence all their work in their Profile books. At this stage, they are working through Level 4 Experiences and Outcomes whilst also completing some outcomes at National 4 that will help them when they continue PE Studies in S4. The course begins to focus pupils on independent learning as well as the Skills for Life, Learning and Work.

JSLA

The JSLA course allows pupils to develop leadership skills and personal qualities; using sport as the vehicle to achieving this. Pupils get the opportunity to work with primary pupils within our cluster through a variety of activities, festivals and events that they lead. This course should see pupils grow in confidence and improve organisational and communication skills. Pupils also work with external agencies including Active Schools.

Core PE

Core PE allows pupils to continue to develop their understanding of the holistic Health & Wellbeing model, with emphasis placed on physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and pupil choice plays a huge part in this course. The course should see pupils develop fitness, skill level and social skills through a wide range of fun activities.

Senior Phase (S4 – S6)

PE Studies

From S4 onwards in the senior phase, the PE Department will offer courses at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher (S6 only). These courses take pupils through the Cycle of Analysis with an emphasis on improving performance. Pupils will concentrate on specific sports and look at a variety of Factors that Impact on Performance in each sport. At each level, the degree of difficulty increases and pupils are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own performance improvement in terms of how the test, train and apply principles.

CSLA

The CSLA builds on the work of the JSLA course and is very similar in terms developing Leadership skills through sport. Pupils get the opportunity to work with primary pupils within our cluster through a variety of activities, festivals and events that they lead. This course should see pupils grow in confidence and improve organisational and communication skills. Pupils will also work with external agencies including Active Schools. In this course, pupils are also required to complete a Level 1 First Aid award and do a minimum number of voluntary hours in the community.
